Ale Aguirre, DVM, DACVIM

Dr. Ale AguirreAle Aguirre, DVM, DACVIM, is a internal medicine specialist. As a specialist, he sees patients with chronic diseases or diseases that are difficult to diagnose. In order to achieve the most accurate diagnosis, he utilizes specialized equipment including CT scans, MRI, interventional radiology, laparoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasound, radiology, and lithotripsy.

Dr. Aguirre earned his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Anthropology at Stanford University in California. He attended veterinary school at Cornell University in New York. After earning his doctorate of veterinary medicine, Dr. Aguirre spent several years pursuing advanced training to become the specialist that he is today. He completed an internship at the University of Missouri in small animal internal medicine and surgery. He then completed a residency at Cornell University in internal medicine. Dr. Aguirre spent several years practicing internal medicine in New Jersey prior to joining VETMED in 2007.

In July 2007, Dr. Aguirre published an article in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association about gallbladder disease in Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties). Dr. Aguirre found that Shelties are predisposed to developing gallbladder mucocoeles, a newly recognized disease in which the gallbladder fills with mucous and is at risk for rupturing. Dr. Aguirre recently wrote a chapter for the leading Veterinary Internal Medicine Textbook on liver disease in dogs and cats. He has served as a lecturer for local Arizona veterinary conference.

When not performing internal medicine, Dr. Aguirre enjoys spending time helping injured wildlife, doing photography, hiking, and playing with his many pets including two beagles, several tortoises and birds.
